Feedback

For those of you who have worked with me in the past (or do currently), can you give me some ideas of stuff to mention about myself?   Since it’s likely I’ll be asked to go over some of what I’ve worked on in the past next week, I could use some material to work off of.

I know the lack of ASP.NET development is gonna’ hurt things a bit, but what can I say? I just haven’t had any interest in it yet.

Anyhow, if I’ve made any applications, tools, or systems that you think are worth mentioning, let me know.  I figured I’d ask here since there not a whole lot that I was too impressed with most of what I’ve made, but I’m sure some of the other people at the office have a different view :-)

Thanks, folks!

It’s all about lasers…

A friend of mine passed me a link to a rather cool device…

No words can adequately describe quite how breathtakingly cool this i.Tech Virtual Keyboard is. Bluetooth enabled, it uses infrared to project a clear and crisp keyboard onto your desktop, and then transfers your keystrokes via wireless networking to your PDA, Pocket PC or smart phone – it sounds far too futuristic to be true. But it’s very much for real, and it’s awesome.

This 22nd Century gadget is about half the size of your average deck of cards, sits wirelessly on any flat surface, and projects a red standard QWERTY-layout keyboard on any flat opaque surface. Using detection technology it “watches” your fingers hit the key locations it has projected, and then sends the keystrokes through to your PDA, smart phone or pocket PC via Bluetooth.

The projected keyboard is highly visible even in strong light (though it does of course look spectacularly cool in the dark). It’s highly portable as well, though it will make you look a bit of a lunatic at the local, as you will look like you’re typing on nothing more than the pub table (which also raises some serious health and safety concerns), and you will of course be interrupted every fourteen seconds with someone coming over and wanting to know where they can get one.

There is no cooler keyboard in the known universe.

Check it out here.

If it had the option of being powered by USB and allowed you to alter the mapping a bit (to include/exclude/rearrange keys), I’d buy it in a heartbeat.

Online Backups

I was helping my Dad with his backup procedures on his home machine… He isn’t exactly technology-savy, so I needed to find him something that was easy to use and wouldn’t require a lot of extra hardware.

That’s where Mozy came in…

Mozy

Signing up doesn’t require your address, credit card number, or any of that other nonsense. Just an email address, your name (though it’s not verified), and then a couple questions like whether you are a geek or not, what type of job you have, etc. Quick and painless.

You can use it free as long as you want to backup up to 2gigs worth of data… that would cover all of your documents, favorites, email files, etc. as well as a decent amount of software and music. If you want unlimited storage, that’s $4.95/month

It runs in the background, so you won’t even notice it running. Also, you can provide your own encryption key in order to make sure no one but you can potentially access the data.

Me likey :)

Be nice and use the link from this post… That has the referral code on there, which gives me a whopping 256MB extra for everyone who signs up for online backup (free or not) and uses it at least once. Check it out.

Equilibrium

It’s about time!

Even though I’m sticking with it for the long-haul, I’m happy to report that AMD finally bumped back up (if only briefly) to the price I bought it at. I took a screenshot of it just to prove it :)

Breaking Even with AMD

Still is far from sellable… and it’s mostly just a random hiccup, I’m sure, but it’s a step in the right direction, for sure. I definitely am in agreement with Stefan about it, though… There’s no real chance of it being profitable this year. Still, though… for the moment, I’m happy.

[Update – 1pm: It seems that the jump in stock price may be a result of rumors of a buyout. If it’s true, it may result in some nice cash for me. If it’s just a rumor, I guess the stock prices will be headed back down…]
